How much does a bathroom remodel cost in New Hampshire?

Are you considering having your bathroom remodeled? That’s great! I’ll bet you have a lot of awesome ideas for your transformed bathroom!

As you have been thinking about the new space you wish to create, have you been wondering what a bathroom remodel costs? What kind of bathroom you can expect to get with the budget you have? Is your budget too much for the bathroom you want? Is it too little? How will you know?

Don’t worry, we’ll talk about all of that!

Since we are going to talk about actual prices, we need to mention an important factor that will affect these prices: location.

Does my location affect the cost of a bathroom remodel?

We all know that home prices differ from state to state, city to city, and even from neighborhood to neighborhood.

The same principle applies to remodeling costs, to some degree. Remodeling costs vary from region to region, but costs are usually pretty comparable within the same region.

While home costs may vary greatly between Portsmouth and Dover, remodeling costs will be comparable across the entire seacoast region. You can expect to make a similar investment in your bathroom remodel whether you live in Greenland, Rye, or Stratham.

The budget expectations we are about to talk about are for the seacoast region of New Hampshire, including Strafford & Rockingham counties. Costs will likely be a little different if you live in a different part of the country, or even a different part of New Hampshire, like the Lakes Region or the Merrimack Valley.

How much does a custom bathroom remodel cost in New Hampshire?

Your bathroom remodel is considered “custom” if you are planning to include elements like these:

  • Moving walls to create a larger bathroom space

  • Replacing the floor framing and subfloor

  • Moving the placement of plumbing fixtures

  • Installing a standalone tub or a tub with a stone slab or tiled top

  • Building a custom tiled shower stall

  • Using custom or high-end products like a custom vanity, a Toto toilet, Kohler faucets, and/or natural stone tile.

  • Installing custom lighting throughout the bathroom

If you would like to have high-end products in your custom bathroom, the project budget will start at about $150,000. The sky is the limit with high-end projects and you can invest as much as you like! We have had clients invest over $250,000 into a large master bathroom with a custom steam shower, marble tile floors, and high-end plumbing fixtures! High-end custom projects are only limited by your imagination!

If you have a need for a custom bathroom, but you don’t really need to have high-end products, a budget of between $120,000 and $80,000 is usually a reasonable expectation for a high-quality custom bathroom.

These budgets will include demolishing the space down to the frame and rebuilding it with the custom modifications you desire.

How much does an average bathroom remodel cost in New Hampshire?

Remodeling an average-sized bathroom (appx 5’x9’) will generally require an investment of between $70,000 and $50,000 depending on the material selections you make, and some other factors.

This type of project will include elements like:

  • Porcelain tile or Luxury vinyl flooring

  • A high-quality acrylic bathtub

  • Tile or solid surface tub surround

  • An ultra-quiet vent fan

  • A vanity that is made from real wood

  • High-quality toilet, faucets, & lighting

  • Premium wall, ceiling, & trim paints

Projects with high-quality vinyl tile flooring and a solid surface tub surround (like Swanstone) will generally cost between $60,000 and $50,000.

Projects with tile flooring & a tile tub surround will be a bit more expensive, usually in the $70,000 to $55,000 range.

This budget will also include the installation of new drywall, flooring, trim, & paint throughout the entire room.

How much does a budget-conscious bathroom remodel cost in New Hampshire?

When you combine the term “budget-conscious”  with the word “bathroom” you create an oxymoron! Bathrooms are expensive! Even a “budget-conscious” bathroom remodel comes with a price tag of $50,000 to $40,000! What is budget friendly about that amount of money?

All kidding aside, the purpose of a budget-conscious bathroom is to bring increased functionality to your space at as low a cost as possible. A bathroom remodel with a $50,000 to $40,000 budget will generally include:

  • Vinyl flooring

  • An acrylic bathtub & acrylic surround

  • A simple vanity

  • Budget-conscious lighting & vent fan

  • Simple faucets, toilet, and accessories

  • Budget-conscious paint

This budget includes installing new drywall, flooring, trim, & paint throughout the entire room. Sometimes additional money can be saved if these upgrades aren’t necessary.

Obviously, this budget won’t cover modifications to the space, like moving the location of plumbing fixtures, moving walls, or completing structural repairs. Those types of changes add cost to the budget very quickly.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost per square foot?

Quite frankly, the square foot size of a bathroom is a poor indicator of what a remodel will cost. Square foot pricing for a quality-grade bathroom remodel can range anywhere from $600 per square foot to well over $1500 per square foot! What makes the difference between these price points? The square foot size of the space!

While the size of a bathroom does have an effect on the cost, the effect is minimal. The number of fixtures and the quality of the fixtures and finishes has a much greater effect on cost than the size of the space does.

Due to this, we don’t base our budgets on square-foot costs, and we would advise you to do the same.
