So, you are considering having your kitchen remodeled! This is exciting!

I’ll bet you have some questions. Most people do.

Most people in your position are asking questions like: how much does a kitchen remodel cost? What kind of kitchen can I get with the budget I have? Does my location affect the cost of my kitchen renovation? Is my budget too small for the kitchen remodel I want? What factors will affect the cost of my kitchen remodel?

If you’re asking these questions too, you’re in luck! We’re going to answer all of these questions, and a few more! Let’s get started!

Will my location affect the cost of my kitchen remodel?

Because we are going to give you real numbers for projects completed in our area, we need to take a moment to address how location affects remodeling costs.

Long story short, your location will affect your remodeling costs, but these effects are mostly regional.

New England has a high cost of living compared to most other parts of the country. So, you can expect to pay a lot more for your kitchen renovation in southern New Hampshire than you would in a lower cost of living area, like the south or the midwest.

Costs can vary a little bit from city to city, within the same region, but these differences tend to be small, and they are primarily driven by local regulations and permitting costs.

Just because a home on Rye beach costs twice as much as a similar home in Durham, it doesn’t mean your remodeling costs between the two locations will be different (for the same type of project). You can expect to pay the same price for a kitchen renovation whether you are in Hampton, Newfields, or Exeter.

The remodeling costs we are about to describe are based on the costs for projects done in the New Hampshire seacoast, but you can expect to invest a similar amount anywhere in southern New Hampshire and southern Maine.

How much does an average kitchen remodel cost in New Hampshire?

An average, quality-grade kitchen remodel will generally include:

  • Quality-grade semi-custom cabinetry

  • Granite or Quartz countertops

  • Ceramic tile backsplash

  • Quality-grade sink & faucet

  • LED undercabinet lighting

  • Porcelain tile or hardwood flooring

  • Stainless steel appliances

  • Premium paint

Remodeling an average-sized (160-170 sq ft) kitchen with these products will generally require an investment between $120,000 and $90,000.

How much does a custom kitchen remodel cost in New Hampshire?

Your remodeling costs will skyrocket once you step into the custom space! A custom remodel can include having walls moved to extend the kitchen space, changing the kitchen layout, moving plumbing fixtures, rewiring the kitchen, and/or installing custom cabinetry.

Generally, these projects will also include:

  • New drywall

  • New cabinetry

  • New countertops

  • New backsplash

  • New sink & faucet

  • LED undercabinet lighting

  • New flooring

  • New appliances

  • Fresh paint

The quality of the products used will have a huge effect on the budget for a custom kitchen remodel.

How much does a quality-grade custom kitchen remodel cost in New Hampshire?

A custom kitchen remodel, like we described above, that utilizes quality-grade materials, like granite countertops, ceramic tile backsplash, and hardwood flooring, will generally cost between $180,000 and $120,000.

How much does a high-end custom kitchen remodel cost in New Hampshire?

The sky is the limit when it comes to the luxury market! Manufacturers of high-end products have such a vast selection, that you really can spend as much as you like on a high-end kitchen remodel!

That said, you likely aren’t going to get a high-end kitchen remodel for less than $200,000.

Depending on your needs and desires, a budget between $300,000 and $200,000 would probably be a good expectation for a luxury kitchen remodel that will stun you and your friends with the beauty that only high-end materials can provide!

How much does a budget-conscious kitchen remodel cost in New Hampshire?

When your goal is to get a fresh new kitchen for the least amount of money, a kitchen renovation will often make more financial sense than a full remodel. This can mean saving the existing cabinetry and just replacing the flooring, countertops, sink, faucet, and appliances. A renovation like this, utilizing budget-friendly products, will generally cost between $40,000 and $25,000.

A full kitchen remodel, with budget-friendly materials, will generally cost between $70,000 and $50,000.

A project like this will generally include:

  • Stock cabinetry

  • Laminate countertops

  • Builder-grade sink & faucet

  • Budget-conscious lighting

  • Vinyl flooring

  • Basic appliances

  • Budget-conscious paint

How much does a kitchen remodel cost per square foot?

While the size of a kitchen has more of an effect on remodeling costs than it does for bathrooms, square foot costs for kitchen renovations are still quite variable. Kitchens and bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in the home. What makes these rooms expensive is not their size, but all of the products that go into them. Obviously, the quality of these products will have an effect on the overall cost. For example:

A budget-friendly kitchen remodel will likely cost between $400 and $325 per square foot.

A quality-grade kitchen remodel will generally fall somewhere between $700 and $600 per square foot.

A luxury kitchen remodel will likely cost between $1600 and $1200 per square foot, depending on your preferences.

So, as you can see, the quality of the products going into a kitchen remodel has a much larger effect on the cost than the size of the space does. So, please keep this in mind if you are attempting to calculate your costs based on the size of your kitchen.

What factors will affect the cost of a kitchen remodel?

Many factors affect how much your kitchen remodel will cost. The biggest factors are as follows:

  • The location of your home

  • The size of your kitchen

  • Your building material choices

  • The complexity of your project

  • The timeline of your remodel

  • The type of contractor you hire

The budgets described above are for average-sized kitchen remodels in southern New Hampshire, done under a reasonable timeline, by Rothrock Kitchen & Bath Remodeling . Due to the variables above, the budget for your project could be different.
